The Joke's on You
Singers: Richard Russel and Senator Lyndon Johnson

Russell and LBJ scheme a plan in which LBJ will convince the liberal wing of the Democratic party that he is in favor of civil rights, in order to get the support for his run for Presidency. Meanwhile, he’ll water down the civil rights bill of 1957 so it’s ineffective. Once they elect him President, he’ll show his true colors, as a blue blooded true man of the South. Or is he?
LYRICS

INT. THE CAPITAL. 1957
LBJ puts his arm around the shoulder of Richard Russell
Russell:
Senator Lyndon Johnson!
LBJ:
Senator Richard Russell! My boy Baker has been counting votes and it looks like our quote unquote civil rights bill is going to pass.
Russell:
Excellent. Shall we retire to the cloakroom?
LBJ:
I do believe we shall
Russell:
You know those Libtards think you’re on their side
As you talk about your civil rights passion with pride
But meanwhile you made sure that bill
LBJ:
Was so watered down on capital hill
That you could almost drink it down
Russell:
Even I could!
Man, you can screw em so bad...
LBJ:
...and they still think I’m good!
Chorus (together):
So Mr. East Coast, Big time, Modern elite
We’ve got you thinking that you’re winning when we’ve got you beat
LBJ:
Pay attention to my pretty words and not what I do
You’ll wake up in the morning to find the joke's on you
The joke's on you
The joke's on you
LBJ:
They love the way I talk about how I’ll help the poor
Russell:
But they won’t notice if you help out the white ones more
They think the south never really made it over to Austin
LBJ:
By the time I’m done they’ll think I grew up in Boston
Russell:
They’ll make you president saying you’re the one!
LBJ: I’ll take all of their proposals and veto every one!
Together:
So Mr. East Coast, Big time, Modern elite
We’ve got you thinking that you’re winning when we’ve got you beat
LBJ:
Pay attention to my pretty words and not what I do
You’ll wake up in the morning to find the joke's on you
The joke's on you
The joke's on you
LBJ:
Whoo! I just worked up a sweat. Zephyr, can you bring us some drinks?
Zephyr:
Certainly, Mr. Johnson. Would you like that ....watered down?
